Sandia National Laboratories is searching for an exceptional candidate for Sandia’s Master’s Fellowship Program in the Computer Engineering/Computer Science. This position is located in sunny Livermore, California. The candidate will be required to have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE-granted “Q-level” security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
The Information Security Department is responsible for Computer and Cyber Security Operations and Research at the Sandia/CA site. It conducts research in moving data within various network environments, and both conducts research in and provides services for the protection of data. Current research includes peer-to-peer encryption, advanced wireless and network intrusion detection systems, automated network countermeasures, network entity profiling and network traffic analysis. Department activities include the management of the Center for Cyber Defenders Program and other cyber education activities.
Computer Engineering / Computer Science Students should have an interest in joining high performance technical teams in the design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized software tools for data collection, processing, and analysis for national security applications. These tools frequently must be designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, enable integration and interfacing of numerous subsystems, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments. Students will gain experience in embedded hardware and software systems, digital and/or analog circuitry design, data processing and analysis, network technology, modeling and analysis tools, systems engineering processes, and more.
Master’s Fellowship Program
While on roll as a full time Sandia National Laboratories employee, the selected candidate will pursue a graduate degree in electrical, computer, optical, mechanical, computer science, or other engineering discipline at an accredited university on a full-time basis. The candidate will work full-time on site at Sandia for at least two months before beginning graduate studies, and while on summer break. Upon completing the master's degree program, the candidate will return to Sandia to join the hiring organization's technical team and work for a specified period of time fulfilling a service requirement. The candidate must meet Affirmative Action (AA) strategic hiring program service requirements.
