The Department of Physics at the University of Miami invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a faculty position in experimental optics. This appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to begin fall 2017. Targeted research topics include, but are not limited to environmental optics, remote sensing, atmospheric and oceanic turbulence characterization and mitigation, free-space optical communications, and natural particle spectroscopies. Current department research strengths comprise optics in natural environments, with strong ties to the University’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or related discipline, a demonstrated record of research achievements, and a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The physics department is located within the University’s attractive Coral Gables campus in the greater Miami area, and has a wide-ranging research expertise and established Ph.D. program.
