The Department of Physics & Astronomy at MTSU – Middle Tennessee State University – has an opening for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2017. The department has fourteen full-time faculty and graduates around 15 physics majors each year with a positive growth trajectory. We were presented an APS Program of Distinction Award for Improving Undergraduate Physics Education in 2015. Our location is near the geographic center of the state just south of Nashville in Murfreesboro, TN. Candidates must be passionate about teaching, and provide a plan for developing an active research program that can engage undergraduates. Lower division courses are taught using research-based teaching strategies including cooperative group problem solving, peer instruction, interactive engagement, and Socratic dialogue. A newly renovated building (2016) houses over 2,500 ft2 of dedicated research space, and access is also available to the MTSU electron microscopy center.
