Faculty at PSU are engaged in many collaborative efforts, both in research and in teaching, with other departments such as Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science and Resources, Geology, and Biology. The university supports a number of interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs, and new Centers for Electron Microscopy and Nanofabrication, Genomics, the Center for Climate and Aerosol Research, and Life in Extreme Environments have been formed in the last several years.
In addition to interactions within the university, many collaborations exist with faculty from the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU). The Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) is a regional source of collaborative opportunities that connects Oregon's three public research universities - Oregon State University, Portland State University, and the University of Oregon, as well as the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Richland, WA), the state of Oregon, selected researchers from OHSU, and the world-leading "Silicon Forest" high technology industry cluster of Oregon and southwest Washington.
