The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Swarthmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position in experimental physics at the Assistant Professor level beginning with the Fall semester of 2017. Swarthmore is a highly selective liberal arts college located near Philadelphia, whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Candidates must have a strong interest in teaching at a small undergraduate liberal arts college where more than half our majors go on to graduate school. We are seeking candidates interested in teaching physics at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. We particularly seek candidates who can develop a vibrant experimental physics program at the College and contribute to our advanced laboratory program.
Applicants should submit (1) a cover letter, (2) a CV, (3) a statement of teaching experience and approach, and (4) a description of experimental research interests and activities that could involve Swarthmore undergraduates.
We are committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment in the department. Applicants are encouraged to include in their cover letter a discussion of what strategies they would bring to bear to further this goal.
Three letters of reference must be submitted by the application deadline. Application packages should be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7909, and addressed to Prof. Michael Brown, Chair, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA 19081. For full consideration, the deadline for receipt of applications is October 28, 2016.
Swarthmore has a strong institutional commitment to inclusive excellence through diversity in its educational program and employment practices. The College actively seeks and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and the world.
