The Physics Department is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor starting in the Fall 2017 semester to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, produce research and publish scholarly and creative works, advise students, and provide service to the public, College, and Department. The Department seeks candidates who demonstrate outstanding teaching, scholarship, and communication skills. Candidates should have a Ph.D in physics or a closely related field with a focus on condensed matter, biophysics, or astrophysics being preferred. Required Qualifications: PhD in physics or a closely related field. ABD (all but dissertation) with designated date of completion may be considered; Mastery of core physics subject matter demonstrated by such things as advanced degrees, licenses and certifications, honors, awards, and reputation in the subject matter field; Highly developed understanding of teaching theory and practice with a strong passion for continued development of academic excellence in the classroom as demonstrated by a teaching philosophy and/or prior experience that addresses such areas as how to engage and excite students both in and out of the classroom, how to integrate one's research and creative activities into the curriculum, and how to help students draw connections between their classroom learning and the kinds of professional goals they are working to achieve; Scholarly ability in physics or a closely related field as demonstrated by such things as the publication of scholarly materials, the production of professional works that have achieved recognition in the business, government, education, and/or non-profit sectors, or the development of a detailed research program or agenda; Effective written and oral communication skills.
