Staff Scientist (Particle Data Group - Physics Division) - 82926
The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has an opening for a Staff Scientist to work half-time in the Particle Data Group (PDG, http://pdg.lbl.gov/) and half-time on experimental research in one of the Physics Division programs (see http://physics.lbl.gov/). The Physics Division conducts world-leading research in the Energy, Intensity and Cosmic frontiers. The PDG publishes the biennial Review of Particle Physics (RPP), a comprehensive summary of high-energy physics as well as related areas of cosmology and astrophysics. The RPP is the most cited publication in high-energy physics.
The candidate will be expected to interpret, evaluate and annotate particle physics data for the RPP, and to participate in the preparation and coordination of RPP reviews and summaries. The candidate will also be expected to take an active role in the execution and development of an existing Physics Division research program. An outstanding capability in experimental research is required, as are experience working with experimental data, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Other required skills include proficiency in both scientific and editorial work, an ability to organize and summarize information, and excellent writing and editing skills. Preference will be given to applicants with several years postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field, with a strong record of research accomplishments. Proficiency in scientific typesetting using TeX or LaTeX, and experience developing and managing scientific software are desirable.
The appointment may be at either the career or career-track level (a career-track appointment carries the expectation of promotion to career based on significant accomplishments in both research and PDG).
