The Physics Department at PUC-Rio invites applications for one (1) tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics. All department faculties teach an average of 8 hours per week per semester in undergraduate and graduate courses. Our University offers excellent conditions for research and development of all academic activities.
The candidates should be able to develop research in cutting edge areas in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics. Qualifications: PhD in Physics (PhDs in related areas will also be considered) with a record of research accomplishments, compatible with the number of years after graduation.
Two phase selection process: there will be a pre-selection phase based on the documents sent by the candidates; those approved in this first phase will be examined by a committee including professors from outside the Department. This second phase will consist of an oral presentation of the candidates’ research project, an analysis of their publications and the presentation of a 50 minutes physics class (all candidates shall present a class on the same topic).

Additional Salary Information: In Brazilian Reals it is R$ 11,153.81/month, with an end of the year bonus corresponding to a 13th salary. Pension and health plans, including dental, are subsidized by PUC-Rio. The annual salary in dollars varies around U$ 42,000.00. The department cannot guarantee travel expenses for the selection process.
