The Department of Physics invites applications for a long-term, non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer beginning Spring or Fall 2017. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates with over 6 years of full-time teaching experience may be considered for appointment as Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will become part of the departmental instructional faculty team, which now consists of two full-time faculty members. The team has primary responsibility for teaching the non-calculus and calculus-based introductory physics courses using active-engagement teaching methods. The successful candidates will supervise and train the graduate teaching assistants assigned to these courses. Additional responsibilities include departmental and campus committee service. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a teaching team.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely-related field.
The nine-month salary will be competitive and can be supplemented with additional teaching in the summer program.
The Physics department currently consists of 20 tenure-track and 15 research faculty, over 45 graduate students and 150 majors. The department offers a BS in Physics, a BA in Physics for Secondary Education, an Astronomy minor, and both MS and Ph.D. degrees in Physics and in Atmospheric Physics.
