Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Physics. Priority will be given to a physicist or astronomer with expertise in experiment, instrumentation, or data analysis. Applications from all areas of fundamental physics or astronomy are welcome to apply. We are especially, but not solely, interested in candidates with expertise in gravitational physics, atomic physics, nuclear or particle physics, exoplanets or solar system astronomy, radio astronomy, quantum computing, biophysics, and statistical physics. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of experimental physics and will be able to directly involve undergraduates in hands-on laboratory research.
The Physics program at Montclair State University is part of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. In addition to a major and minor in physics, we also offer concentrations in astronomy and certifications in physics teaching. Our program includes several BS and MS degree options in mathematics and statistics, 5-yr BS/MS programs, and a PhD program in Math Education. In addition to mentoring our undergraduates, Physics faculty have the opportunity to mentor students in Mathematics MS programs.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy is required; postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. Candidates are expected to pursue research that will secure external funding and involve undergraduates. The successful candidate should also have a strong commitment to quality teaching in a broad range of courses at the undergraduate level. We are especially interested in candidates who can support and further develop the experimental physics component of our curriculum.
To Apply: Applications should include a cover letter, CV (including a publication list), research statement, a teaching statement, and at least three letters of recommendation. Research and teaching statements should each be five pages or less. Applications should be submitted to academicjobsonline.org (Listing #7906).
Questions or requests for information should be sent to the Chair of the hiring committee, Marc Favata, at email@example.com.
