The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to start in the Fall 2017 semester. The University of Texas at San Antonio is rapidly moving toward a top-tier research institution status and has first-rate research facilities. The Physics and Astronomy department has experienced vigorous growth by establishing state of the art laboratories and recruiting world-class faculty in the past 10 years. Currently, major research programs in the department include material physics, nanotechnology, biophysics, laser spectroscopy, and astrophysics.
The position is targeted toward Experimental Materials Science with emphasis in one or more of the following areas, but not limited to, Nanomaterials, Optoelectronics, Nonlinear Optics, Quantum Optics, Plasmonics and Metamaterials.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field, relevant post-doctoral experience, and established research accomplishments. The successful applicant will be expected to obtain funding from federal, private, and state agencies, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding publication records who have demonstrated capability of teaching and developing their own research programs. We will consider candidates at the Associate Professor rank if they have an impressive publication record and currently hold at least one federally funded grant.
