Define and enforce software implementation best practices ensuring that all consultants implementing Avalara products are trained and mentored.
Establish and promote software implementation guidelines in order to maximize customer satisfaction on each engagement while maintaining project profitability.
Lead a combined team of 5-10 Implementation Consultants and Project Managers on customer excise tax software (i.e., Returns Excise and AvaTax Excise) implementation projects.
Lead discussions with customers on the business considerations of customer business requirements to the product functionality to develop an overall business solution.
Solicit, analyze, and document customer requirements in a clear, articulate, and accurate manner. This may involve proposed or optimal usage of the software modules available, modification or enhancement to existing features, definition of new functionality or production of policy, procedural or training guides.
Provide input to support project planning activities. Produce work effort and resource estimations as required. Actively identify all challenges and blocking issues, escalating potential changes to scope, budget, quality, or effort to the project manager.
Utilize project resources in an efficient manner, clearly communicate work assignments and due dates to team members, address conflict, and maintain a high level of morale among consultants.
Define templates and best practices to implement products in a cost-efficient and timely fashion.
Work with other practices and departments to streamline processes throughout the organization.
Coach and mentor consultants on implementation methodology and other organization policies and procedures.
Lead regular consultant team meetings to resolve practice issues and facilitate communication between the consultants.
Ensure that projects are implemented according to a consistent methodology and in accordance with the established procedures.
Execute human resource responsibilities for staff.
Act as the project director for projects providing guidance to the project team, serving as the first escalation point, monitoring budgets, monitoring resource allocations, validating that practice methodologies have been followed, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Position involves travel 15-30 percent of the time.
Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field
3 years of experience implementing large enterprise-wide software in the capacity of a Lead Consultant or Practice Manager
3 years of experience in a related position working within the excise tax industry with tax compliance, tax calculation, and tax returns
Experience managing teams of 5 to 10 individuals
Willingness to travel 15-30 percent of the time for work
