The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure system faculty position in the broad areas pertaining to experimental accelerator technology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with expertise in, but not limited to technologies related to design of compact accelerators and components, viz, charged particle beam optics, ion sources, design of cavities and structures, electron cloud and plasma effects, and high voltage engineering. Areas of interest also include accelerator technology advancement as applied to imaging, medicine and diagnostics.
The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues within the ECE Department, the College of Engineering, National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory and Facility for Rare Isotope Beams to complement a world class accelerator program. All applications must demonstrate evidence of strong research potential, interest in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, and a commitment to teamwork. This position is targeted at the junior faculty level, but senior candidates with outstanding credentials will be considered.
The ECE department has strong interdisciplinary research and educational programs on a foundation of core electrical and computer engineering disciplines and provides first-class education while engaging in research at the frontiers of knowledge. The Department has 56 faculty members, including two National Academy of Engineering members, 18 IEEE Fellows, 13 NSF CAREER and 2 DARPA YFA awardees. The Department has strong research programs in all major areas of electrical and computer engineering, with annual research expenditures of about $16M. Faculty in the Department are leading several federal and industry-supported centers, including the NSF Science and Technology Center BEACON, and the Fraunhofer Center for Coatings and Diamond Technologies. The Department has accredited B.S. degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. The current enrollment is approximately 220 full-time graduate students and 833 undergraduate students.
