EDUCATION DESIRED: Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, or closely related field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Must be able to develop and experimentally perform on creative R&D projects involving nanoscale quantum-effect devices and their electrical characterization at cryogenic temperatures. Must be able to develop and conduct laboratory experiments, develop and manage research projects. Must give effective technical presentations and write technical papers and proposals.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Experience in experimental research and development including hardware and software development for control of complex experiments. Experience with experimental characterization of solid-state devices at cryogenic temperatures, relevant analysis and modeling, and familiarity with fabrication approaches for nanoscale electronic devices. Experience with analysis of noise in measurement systems and of effects of noise on device operation at classical and quantum levels. Must have authored scientific publications and given technical presentations. History of demonstrated technical innovation (writing technical proposals and patents) is desired. Project management skills desirable. Team based technical performance desirable.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Knowledge of device physics, including ability to relate basic material and device characteristics to system level performance. Knowledge of electronic, optical and other material and device characterization and measurement equipment and procedures. Knowledge of software for modeling, analysis, and data collection.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform safely in semiconductor processing and material and device analysis laboratories, and be able to climb ladders. Must be able and willing to travel.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
