EDUCATION DESIRED: MS in electrical engineering or BS in electrical engineering with minimum 2 years of relevant experience is required. Applied electromagnetics specialization is preferred. Previous internship/job experience in antenna and RF/microwave systems design and test is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: R&D under supervision of senior staff scientists. Design, simulation, layout, fabrication, and testing of novel antennas, antenna matching circuits, and RF/microwave systems. Work with staff scientists to develop antenna and RF/microwave system test methods and fixtures. Collect, analyze, and report on experimental data and provide test documentation and reports to team members. Communicate with vendors for off-the-shelf and custom parts based upon specified requirements. Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly. Capable of working independently as well as within cross-functional teams.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Experience in design, simulation, multilayer printed circuit board layout, fabrication and testing of RF/microwave antennas, antenna matching circuits, and RF/microwave systems is required. Experience with far field and/or near field anechoic chamber measurements is required. Must have working knowledge of standard RF/microwave test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, etc.). Experience with high-frequency simulators such as HFSS (preferred) or CST/COMSOL is required. Experience with ADS simulation software is preferred. Experience with analytical electromagnetics, antenna array design, microwave metamaterials/metasurfaces, and leaky-wave antennas is preferred. Experience with data acquisition using LabVIEW and MATLAB is preferred. Experience with test fixture design using CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Inventor is preferred. Experience with on-wafer RF probe station testing is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Undergraduate level standard electrical engineering coursework (electromagnetics, circuits, devices, etc.) is required. Graduate level coursework (or equivalent) in antennas is required. Graduate level coursework (or equivalent) in antenna arrays, numerical electromagnetics, RF/microwave circuits, and RF/microwave systems and measurements is required. Must have working knowledge and understanding of antenna and electromagnetic systems concepts such as scattering parameters, input/output impedance matching, and noise. Must have working knowledge of antenna and antenna array concepts such as gain, directivity patterns, side lobes, and grating lobes.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work safely in antenna and RF/microwave testing laboratories. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organization skills are required. Must be able to relocate small to moderate sized test equipment in order perform measurement tasks. Must work closely with staff scientists and program managers as integral part of design teams. Must be proficient in use of computers, engineering work stations, and complex electronic equipment. Must be able to interact with customers/colleagues and enjoy working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required. Security clearance or ability to obtain a security clearance is preferred.
