Being a Plasma Diagnostician at Fuse involves leading the design, research and development (R&D), and procurement activities of diagnostics and experimental data analysis of the Fuse flow through z-pinch device. You will design, operate, and explore spectroscopy, interferometry, magnetic field probes, langmuir/MACH probes, instrumentation operating in a wide range of wavelengths (near-IR, visible, UV, VUV< X-ray). The candidate will assure that the diagnostics design is completed to meet the functional, safety, and quality requirements as specified by the project lead, Dr. Ray Golingo. You may also assist in the design and maintenance of other plasma diagnostic systems.

Presently we are looking for a plasma diagnostician. The responsibilities and desired skills for the position are listed below. Ultimately, we want people who trust their instincts and predict the future by inventing it.
Take responsibility for the R&D, specification, procurement, installation, commission, and maintenance of assigned diagnostic systems
Manage the contracts and resources allocated to spectroscopic diagnostics
Assist in the design and interfaces to data acquisition and other systems
Interacts regularly with others in the Diagnostics areas
Acts as primary point of contact for plasma spectroscopy
Take responsibility for regular calibration and updates of the calibration data for other systems such as data acquisition and plasma control systems
Perform analysis of the experimental data delivered by diagnostics
Maintain clean and tidied space for those living in the facility
Minimum Job Requirements:
A PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.
Solid background in statistical and mathematical methods and modeling HEDP, or related systems.
Proficiency in a computer language such as Fortran, Matlab, C/C++, and/or Python.
Experience with geometric optics and its application to laser ray-tracing.
Experience in modeling HEDP experiments, highly-coupled physics experiments for compressible flows.
Solid background in statistical and mathematical methods for solving systems of partial differential equations in fluid dynamics, or related fields.
Experience with massively parallel numerical development and simulations.
Experience with big data, and evolving numerical algorithms computer codes to future computing architectures. Any curiosity in machine learning algorithms is nice.
