(3) Fixed-term (3 to 5 years) research associates
The applicant should be under 40 years old and have a minimum of two years’ research experience after receiving his/her Ph.D. degree.
A qualified applicant must have established an outstanding academic record demonstrating that he/she will have the ability of acting as a group leader to conduct independent and innovative research activities at the forefront of research in theoretical physics. The application should consist of: 1) Cover letter, 2) Curriculum vitae, 3) A list of publications together with citations of each paper, 4) Research statement and plan, 5) Three to five representative publications, and 6) At least three references sent directly by referees (to be eligible for the nationwide talents program, at least three references should be from overseas scientists, and for the CAS talents program, at least one reference should be from the applicant’s Ph.D. supervisor). These files (in PDF) should be submitted via emails to Ms. Shuting Guo (Email: firstname.lastname@example.org; Tel: 86-10-6258 2398; Fax: 86-10-6258 2366). The deadline for receipt of applications is Dec. 31, 2019.
2. For Postdoctoral Fellow Position, the applicant must have obtained a Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics or other related fields and should be under 35 years old.
The successful applicant will be provided with competitive salary and renting assistance in Beijing. The most competitive applicants may be recommended to apply for the “CAS Special Research Assistant (SRA) Program”. Those who are included in the CAS-SRA Program will get a support of 400 thousand RMB per year covering the salary, insurance, research fund, etc. and may apply for the CAS talents program after finishing CAS-SRA.
The applicant is encouraged to make contact with one of the ITP faculty members (http://sourcedb.itp.cas.cn/yw/zjrck/fas/) to secure a potential cooperator. Please include the cooperator’s name in the cover letter and the cooperator’s recommendation comments in the application form for special research assistant (postdoctoral fellow) if an agreement has been reached with an ITP faculty member.
The application should consist of a completed application form for special research assistant (postdoctoral fellow), at least two references sent directly by referees (one should be from the Ph.D. supervisor of the applicant), and a list of publications with citations of each paper. These files (in PDF) should be sent to Ms. Ping Shi (email@example.com) before Dec. 15, 2019.
About Institute of Theoretical Physics (CAS)
The Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP), founded in June 1978, is a professional institute focusing on fundamental research of theoretical physics. Mr. Huan-Wu Peng is the founding director, and other former directors are Guang-Zhao Zhou, Bai-Lin Hao, Zhao-Bing Su, Zhong-Can OuYang and Yue-Liang Wu.
It is among the first group of institutes that opened to domestic and international scholars, one of the first twelve institutions selected from more than a hundred institutes at CAS to implement Pilot Project of the Knowledge Innovation Program (PPKIP) in 1998, and one of the first four institutions at CAS selected to be assessed internationally in 2004.
In 2006, the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics China (KITPC), as an international exchange and cooperation platform, was established at ITP. It is one of the 12 (17 now) network members of the Kavli Institutes all over the world.
In 2011, the State Key Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (SKLTP) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology to be set up at ITP.
With 40 years’ effort, ITP has become a top institute engaged in research on theoretical physics in China.
ITP now has 59 staff with 32 re...search fellows, including 7 Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)(4 of them are also Members of The World Academy of Sciences), 22 members of CAS One Hundred Talents Program, and 13 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Besides, there are about 30 postdoctoral fellows and 151 graduate students.
ITP consists of two Divisions. Division I conducts research in the areas of elementary particle physics, quantum field theory, gravitation and string theory, astrophysics and cosmology, unification theory, mathematic physics and simulation physics. Division II studies non-equilibrium statistic physics, condensed matter physics, nonlinear theory, computational physics, theoretical biological physics, atom-molecule and quantum interference theory, nuclear physics.
Based on the traditional strengths and comparative advantages of ITP as well as the new trends of scientific developments, ITP is now concentrating on the following 4 research fields: (1) Quantum Field Theory and Microscopic Structure of Matter; (2) String Theory, Gravity and Cosmology; (3) Statistical Physics and Theoretical Biophysics; (4) Condensed Matter Physics and Quantum Physics.
