The Fermilab Quantum Science Program is seeking graduating PhDs in the fields of Physics and/or Quantum Computing for a postdoctoral position to work on quantum computing (QC) in the area of large scale simulation of quantum devices with high-performance computing (HPC) and high-energy physics (HEP) style analysis. While the successful candidate will be based at Fermilab, there will be strong collaboration with researchers at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) and use of HPC resources at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF).
The appointment will be for two years with the possibility of renewal, subject to continuation of the project funding and performance.
Collaborate with superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavity-based qubit experts to learn parameters for designing hardware and noise models.
Enhance quantum simulator code to add hardware and noise models. You may also make general improvements to the simulator code for ease of use.
Integrate quantum algorithms relevant to HEP into simulator to demonstrate utility of multi-qubit SRF cavity system.
Assemble infrastructure for large scale analysis on HPC at Argonne Leadership Computing Facility.
Analyze results with modern tools on HPC systems. You will also write a paper and give presentations.

We Are Looking For
Ph.D. in Quantum Physics, Theoretical Physics, High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Quantum Information Sciences or other relevant degree
Programming experience with C or C++ and Python required
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Have a record of peer-reviewed journal publications
Creative and independent problem-solving skills
One or more of the following are desirable/preferred:
Knowledge of how to model quantum devices
Knowledge of quantum simulators
Knowledge of quantum algorithms
Familiarity with HPC systems
Experience with large scale analysis systems with modern software tools (Jupyter, SciPy, R, and/or Julia)
Knowledge of cavity QED devices
Prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: quantum information, quantum algorithms, or quantum optics
Experience in other areas of theoretical or experimental physics combined with a commitment to transition to a new field of research may also be considered
