The University of Colorado Boulder (CU) encourages applications for the Director of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI). Situated in Colorado’s fast-growing Front Range, RASEI is a joint Institute between CU and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The Institute’s mission is to expedite the development and deployment of science, engineering and public policy innovations supporting sustainable energy solutions nationally and worldwide through research, education and technology commercialization.
The Institute brings together researchers from NREL and CU faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering and Applied Science. In addition to leveraging accomplished CU faculty, RASEI has attracted outstanding senior, mid-level and junior tenure-track faculty to its ranks in the last ten years. Faculty have tenure homes in departments such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE), Electrical Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE), Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and others. These faculty members are affiliated with NREL science and technology directorates including Bioenergy Science and Technology, Energy Systems Integration, Materials, and Chemical Science and Technology, Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Sciences, and Scientific Computing and Energy Analysis.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The Director will have a tenured faculty position at the University of Colorado and will serve under a joint appointment between the University of Colorado and NREL. The director will work with the RASEI Fellows, CU faculty and NREL researchers to grow RASEI’s research impact across the state of Colorado, the nation and internationally. The director will be charged with growing RASEI’s impact through leadership of interdisciplinary research; attracting external sponsors at the national, state and local levels; managing RASEI’s laboratory and physical spaces; accelerating the careers of CU faculty and NREL researchers, and promoting and leveraging the partnership between CU and NREL through long-term strategic planning.
