Postdoctoral Opportunity in Modeling of Electronic Structure and Dynamics of Quantum Materials
Los Alamos National Laboratory
The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate postdoctoral position opening in the area of theoretical modeling and simulation of electronic structure, ultrafast optical response, and transport properties in quantum materials. This position provides an opportunity to pursue fundamental studies of functional properties in a variety of quantum materials including transition-metal oxides, topological insulators and Weyl semimetals, and van der Waals materials, etc. As an integral quantum material effort of Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), a U.S. DOE BES user facility, the postdoctoral project will involve development and applications of solid state and electronic structure methods, numerical and analytical modeling of fundamental and dynamic electronic processes on multiple length and time scales, and will assume an active collaboration with the experimental groups at CINT. The successful candidate must have a strong background in computational materials science, condensed matter theory, and theoretical spectroscopy. Expertise in electronic structure and related methods are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in studies of light-matter interaction or spin dynamics in condensed matter. The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a diverse team, is important. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. Please apply for this position online through LANL website https://www.lanl.gov/careers/index.php (Job id IRC83041), and also send a resume, publication list, research interests, a brief statement of future plans and the names of three references to Dr. Jian-Xin Zhu (jxzhu@lanl.gov). The position has an initial appointment of two years.
