| EXPERIMENTAL–PHYSICS EDUCATION SPECIALIST The W.M. Keck Science Department of Claremont McKenna College, Pitzer College, and Scripps College The W.M. Keck Science Department of Claremont McKenna College, Pitzer College, and Scripps College (members of the 7-member Claremont Colleges Consortium) seeks to hire an Experimental-Physics Education Specialist, starting July 1, 2021. The position combines three essential tasks: (1) managing laboratory operations, (2) pedagogical laboratory development, and (3) teaching instructional physics labs, and depending on departmental needs and qualifications of the candidate, lecture courses such as introductory or upper-division offerings. We seek a passionate teacher of undergraduates with broad interdisciplinary interests to join our ongoing effort to update and expand our experimental physics curriculum, and to lead the modernization of our introductory physics labs for non-majors. Applicants from all areas of experimental physics and/or affiliated, interdisciplinary fields such as biophysics and engineering are welcomed. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or related field. Prior experience teaching and/or designing inquiry-based physics labs is preferred. A working knowledge of basic electronics, instrumentation, and physics equipment typically used in introductory undergraduate physics labs is required. Additionally, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute pedagogical content from their field of expertise to the upper-division experimental-physics curriculum. The Experimental-Physics Education Specialist is an exempt, 12-month, full-time staff position with benefits. Keck Science is an integrative science department composed of faculty and staff in biology, chemistry, environmental science, neuroscience, and physics. The physics discipline also oversees an active 3-2 pre-engineering program.
