The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Swarthmore College invites applications for a Lab Lecturer to teach and support the instructional laboratories. We seek candidates with experience teaching undergraduate laboratories and a dedication to development of high-quality curricula for the lab program. While the introductory physics labs are the primary focus of this position, there are opportunities to contribute to the astronomy labs and observatory, to the advanced labs, and to physics education research.  In addition to teaching lab sections, lab lecturers support the labs by ordering, maintaining, and setting up equipment, supporting faculty with lecture demonstrations and training on new lab experiments, and collaborating with department faculty to develop and document new lab curricula. The ability to work collegially with others and strong organizational skills are essential. Starting fall semester 2021, this is a one-year appointment to the instructional staff with possibility of reappointment to a three-year term. Instructional staff are benefits-eligible nine-month employees whose salaries are paid out over twelve months.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy instructional staff currently consists of seven physicists, two astronomers, and one other lecturer. In addition, the department has a dedicated machinist and electronics technician.
