Outstanding opportunity to lead the experimental nuclear physics program at a prestigious, world-leading nuclear physics research facility located in the coastal, southeast region of Virginia. Jefferson Lab is seeking an Associate Director for Experimental Nuclear Physics. About the job: The Associate Director for Experimental Nuclear Physics is responsible for the execution of the experimental nuclear physics program of the laboratory. Responsibilities include the management of the Experimental Physics Division of approximately 140 staff including 85 scientists and engineers. The primary nuclear physics research facility is the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility operating at 12 GeV with four experimental halls. The laboratory has an international user community numbering approximately 1600 physicists. Working in concert with other members of laboratory management, the Associate Director contributes to strategic planning, policy formation, budgeting, and science initiatives. The Associate Director will partner with leadership team members to support the lab’s broad scientific mission, including the Electron-Ion Collider and development of a computational sciences program. The Associate Director represents the laboratory with government agencies, the international physics community, other laboratories, universities and other stakeholders.
About you: You will bring a vision for the future evolution of the different components of the nuclear physics program of the laboratory and the ability to nurture the efforts of a major part of the laboratory and to set a tone and direction which will ensure excellence on the world scale. Important attributes include leadership and communication skills, ability to manage resources and personnel, and technical knowledge relevant to accelerator-based experimental nuclear physics.
