  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • M.S. in Forensic Science, Geoscience, Nuclear Science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Broad[LJ1] experience operating and maintaining light microscopy systems, and the associated hardware and electronics, including software and interfacing hardware.
  • Broad experience operating and maintaining electron microscopy systems (SEM, EPMA), and the associated hardware and electronics, including software and interfacing hardware.
  • Experience characterizing materials for geochemistry, cosmochemistry, metallurgy, or nuclear research and analysis.
  • Effective organizational and documentation skills, necessary for good sample management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work in a collaborative research environment.

Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level

  • Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Geoscience, Nuclear Science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Significant experience developing independent research projects and working with or leading interdisciplinary technical teams.
  • Ability to integrate microscopy observations and data with results from other analytical techniques in order to answer scientific and programmatic questions.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with one or more complementary analytical methods such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, electron backscatter diffraction, or Raman spectroscopy.
  • Experience working with radiological or nuclear material.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills necessary to deliver presentations and prepare technical and scientific written reports.
