The Center for Computational Sciences at Mississippi State University will be hosting a summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program during May 30 - August 4, 2023 sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The application deadline is March 31, 2023.
This program is aimed at involving undergraduate students in active research under the supervision of faculty who are dedicated researchers and mentors at the CCS, an interdisciplinary computational research center at MSU.
The major concentration will be in computational methods and their applications in materials science. The program is multidisciplinary, with mentors from the Mississippi State University departments of Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, and Mathematics & Statistics. The objectives are to provide the undergraduate students with meaningful research experience, to show them the enjoyment of doing research, and to encourage them to pursue advanced degrees in mathematical and physical sciences. In addition to gaining experience in using computational simulation and data analysis tools, students will gain knowledge in using high-performance computing. At the end of the program the participants will prepare written reports and give presentations of their research. The program will be enhanced with various scientific, cultural and social activities.
Undergraduate US citizens or US permanent residents are eligible for this program. Women and students from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. The participants are expected to devote their time fully to this summer research program, and they should not simultaneously be engaged in any other academic coursework or jobs during the program.
