Lawrence University invites applications from those interested in a two-year full-time postdoctoral research position at a small undergraduate college. The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for conducting electron plasma experiments in a purely toroidal field trap and in a dipole trap. Experience in laboratory plasma physics is desired, as well as CAD design and development of experimental control and data acquisition systems using LabVIEW. The responsibilities associated with this position include:
Assembling and maintaining experimental equipment associated with the plasma physics laboratory, including the Lawrence Non-neutral Torus II and the Lawrence Non-neutral Dipole.
Planning and carrying out experiments on the plasma devices.
Authoring papers and delivering presentations that result from experiments in the Lawrence plasma devices.
Supervising undergraduate research students who undertake projects in the plasma laboratory.
Teach one course each year.
This position is funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation, and therefore, the person in this position will be responsible for following applicable federal grant requirements.
We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Lawrence by: (1) further diversifying the staff; and/or (2) demonstrating experience serving diverse populations and working successfully with diverse colleagues; and (3) showing interest in developing initiatives to address the needs of a diverse student, faculty, staff and community particularly related to antiracism.
