Postdoctoral Research—Fusion Power Exhaust
Scientists at General Atomics are collaborating with colleagues at KSTAR, EAST, and SPARC to develop effective control of detachment in tokamaks. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher to help lead this effort and enable longer, higher-power tokamak operation through the heat flux mitigation provided by detachment. In this position, the researcher will plan and execute detachment control experiments on KSTAR (in Daejeon, South Korea) and EAST (in Hefei, China), study the measured dissipation and detachment dynamics, and use that information to design and improve control systems. In particular, the use of impurity powder droppers in detachment control is a key goal. In addition, the researcher will collaborate with boundary modelers to develop syn
