Overview The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
The successful candidate will conduct experiments, modeling and analysis in the area of core and pedestal physics as well as stability and transport analyses. In addition, the candidate will help support and maintain the operation of the Thomson scattering diagnostic on one or more experiments. The candidate will be based onsite in Princeton NJ, and will participate and contribute in the area of core and pedestal transport physics on a range of devices: NSTX-U, LTX-beta, ST40, and possibly MAST-U. Travel to support collaborative experimental research on offsite facilities may be required.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for proposing and conducting experiments, performing analysis, and disseminating results in the form of talks, posters, and refereed journal articles, principally related to core and pedestal physics. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in the Thomson scattering operations. The candidate will also be involved in analysis of data from the Thomson scattering diagnostic using transport codes; an example of one such transport code for the core plasma is TRANSP.

- Applicants should have a Ph.D. in plasma physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field. Strong experimental, analytical, and
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- English communication skills are required. Experience with fusion science, as well as Thomson scattering is preferred.
