Scientists at General Atomics are collaborating with colleagues at KSTAR and EAST to develop disruption free operation via advanced control systems. We currently have an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher to help lead this effort that is indispensable to the development of practical fusion in a tokamak. In this position, the researcher will plan and execute experiments on KSTAR and EAST that test and develop control systems that can avoid a wide variety of disruption triggers (locked modes, hardware failures, etc.). Though analysis, the researcher will determine the most effective disruption responses and develop new methods for responding to faults.
